SAUL Randall has followed in the footsteps of his older brothers by clinching the Western Counties title.

The youngster was in fine form as he took on Ben Harvey of National Smelting in the Class One 40-42kg final at Filton College.

Randall came out firing on all cylinders, catching Harvey with a great combination of four straight shots to put him on the ropes.

The seasider maintained the pressure and boasted a healthy 14-4 lead after the first round.

The second was a more even contest while in the third, Harvey looked to take the initiative.

But Randall boxed behind a tight guard and stood firm to run out a worthy winner, 29-11, and emulate the achievements of siblings Jon Jo Look and Storm Look.

Stable-mate Jack Barlow was also eyeing Western Counties glory as he faced Said Eltuyev (Walcot) in the Class Two 36-38kg final.

Barlow was up against a promising opponent given his record of eight wins from 10 and the Walcot boxer made an impressive start, displaying fast hands as he took the bout to Barlow.

The latter refused to cave in and put up a brave fight in the final round – his best of the night – but Eltuyev had done enough to earn the verdict.

In a supporting bout, John Corson went toe-to-toe with Ash Lee (Downend).

Corson pushed forward in the early exchanges but was picked off by Lee, who took the first round 4-1.

The second was level pegging, prompting the Weymouth coaches to order Corson to attack in the third, which he did.

Corson finished the bout the stronger of the two, catching his rival at will, and wiped out the deficit before winning 7-5 on countback.
