MARK Ford continued his incredible goalscoring exploits to fire the Terras to a fourth successive home league victory over Banbury United.

The young forward, who recently moved to the Bob Lucas Stadium after netting 35 times in just 22 appearances for Blandford United, came off the bench and grabbed a brace in an incredible 2-1 win to move Weymouth up to 11th in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division table.

However, boss Brendon King believes there is still a lot for his side to work on.

Speaking after the dramatic victory, he told Echosport: “I think we deserved to win it in the end in terms of the amount of chances we created but we very nearly shot ourselves in the foot.

“At 1-0 up we conceded a very poor equaliser following a long free-kick into the box and then at 2-1 we gave them a similar chance to nick a point right at the end.

“We need to be stronger and more switched on in those situations, so although I am over the moon with the victory there are still plenty of issues we have got to improve on.”

On the subject of Ford, King went on to add: “It was always the plan to bring him on with 20 minutes to go.

“We knew they were not the most mobile at the back so we wanted to work them hard for 70 minutes or so and then use Mark’s pace and sharpness in the box towards the end to cause them a few different problems and it paid off.

“He is one of those rare players that possesses a natural instinct to be in the right place at the right time, and when a player has that it doesn’t matter what the level is, he will always score goals.

“The fact both his strikes in the game were with his weaker foot says an awful lot about the quality of his finishing and although he still has a lot to learn there is no doubt he has great potential.”

King, who had new coach Micky Greeno by his side in the dugout during the encounter, was also full of praise for keeper Nick Jordan.

He added: “Making saves is what he is there to do but a couple of the ones he pulled off were fantastic, particularly the one right at the end which guaranteed us the three points.”

Byron Napper’s potential loan deal failed to go through in time for him to feature at the weekend but King has told Echosport it should be sorted later today. He is also confident that Portland United defender Ashley Wells will put pen to paper tomorrow.
