UPWEY & BROADWEY 1 KINGSTON LACY 0

CHARLIE Kenderdine’s screamer saw Upwey & Broadwey complete a league double over Kingston Lacy at Redlands.

Although clear-cut chances were few and far between the hosts were on top for the majority of the game and deserved their winner, which arrived on 55 minutes.

A couple of one-twos with Jason Pearce set Kenderdine on his way before he then unleashed an unstoppable strike from 25 yards that gave the visiting keeper no chance.

It was a goal that deserved to win any game and boss Steve Reynolds was delighted afterwards. He said: “I slated the lads the previous week for their non-commitment in the defeat against Weymouth Sports but this week I have nothing but praise for them.

“They fought for every second ball and ran their socks off, and to be honest 1-0 flattered Lacy in the end.

“Both teams had goals disallowed but had we not won that game it would have been an injustice.

“The way we kept the ball was superb and we had Lacy chasing shadows for most of the game.

“It was goal-less at half-time but we then came out and got the breakthrough we deserved through an incredible strike from Charlie, who had a great game.

“Sean Stewart and Richard Frost were also at their best but to be fair you couldn’t really single anyone out as everyone performed superbly.”

The victory leaves Upwey third in the Dorset Senior League, just one point off the top. However, they have played more games than the teams around them.

Reynolds added: “This win certainly keeps us tagging on to the top but in reality I am not sure we can win it from here.

“All we can do is win our remaining six games and just see where it takes us.

“One thing I am surprised at is that we are still the only team to have beaten Lacy this season.

“For me they are no great shakes and I still think Portland United Reserves are the best team in the league and favourites to win the title.”

Lacy lie four points behind Upwey with four games in hand while Portland sit at the top following an unbeaten league run of 11 games.
