TREVOR Senior believes tomorrow’s encounter has taken on greater significance in the wake of midweek results.

Fellow strugglers Radstock Town moved out of the Toolstation Western Premier Division drop-zone with a 2-1 win over Wells City on Tuesday night, meaning the gap between Bridport and the bottom two has closed to seven points.

Consequently, the Bees’ boss is determined to see his side come out on top against Longwell Green Sports (3pm) – Bridport’s first home match since January 7.

Senior, whose men suffered a 2-1 loss when the two sides met in early December, said: “We feel we owe them one after playing them at their place earlier in the season.

“We played very well in the first half and went 1-0 up with a good goal from Darren Watts.

“We were very much on top but they caught us cold in the second half with two goals. We should have come away with something that day.

“They are above us in the table but they have been a bit inconsistent with their form (one win in nine games).

“Radstock won on Tuesday night so they are now six points behind us with a game in hand, which makes getting three points tomorrow very important.”

Bridport recorded a welcome point in their last outing, drawing 2-2 at Brislington.

And Senior hopes the encouraging result will have a positive effect on his players.

He added: “I was pleased with the performance last week and that point could turn out to be a good one, especially as Brislington beat Bitton before they played us and then beat Larkhall Athletic on Tuesday night.

“Hopefully the performance will give us some confidence and we can push on from there.”

Last Saturday’s stalemate came just 24 hours after the Bees discovered that top scorer Sam Charles (knee) has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Senior said: “It’s his cruciate so he’ll be out for the rest of the season, which is a big shame. However, he is being positive about it all.”

The Bees are without a fixture next weekend so their manager is in the process of arranging a friendly.
