NOT even an inspired performance from Martin Rut-land could stop Weyline from maintaining their push towards the Weymouth Sunday League Premiership title.

With Rodwell not in action, the table-toppers extended their lead at the summit to six points at Redlands thanks to goals from Ethan Devaney, Danny Andrews and man-of-the-match Dan McDonald, and it would have been more had it not been for the Britannia stopper.

Rutland made several outstanding saves during the encounter but in a strange twist of fate it was his miskicked clearance that led to the opening goal, which saw Devaney fire home from 18 yards just two minutes before the break.

Prior to that, the experienced gloveman had pulled off a fantastic reaction save to deny the same player as well as producing two point-blanks stops to keep out Lee Pattison and Andrews.

Weyline continued to take charge after the break but it was not until the 77th minute that they finally got the breathing space they were after with McDonald setting up Andrews for the second.

The home forward proved a constant menace and it was not long before he chalked up his brace following a fine assist from Sean Stewart.

McDonald then went on to wrap up the 4-0 victory with a strike from 12 yards.

Meanwhile, down in the Champion-ship, the top-two played out a 2-2 draw at Redlands.

Bobby Darch and Derek Puckett got the goals for current league leaders Market House while Phil Lee and Matt Brown replied for Wellworthy.
