Chickerell UNITED 0

WEYMOUTH RESERVES 0

NOTHING could separate Chickerell United and Weymouth Reserves in a low-key local derby at Cranford Avenue.

Both teams worked hard but cancelled each other out for much of the contest with very few chances at either end.

Jamie Perry pulled off a couple of saves for the Terras and Chucky Taylor hit the bar but on reflection both managers agreed a point apiece was the right result.

Weymouth joint-boss Jake Richmond said: “It was a horrible, tight affair throughout with both teams cancelling each other out.

“But although we were disappointed at the end not to have come away with the three points neither team really deserved it.

“There were only three chances in the whole game.

“They had one in the first minute that Jamie saved and then after half-time Chucky hit the bar.

“The last one came with 15 minutes to go but again Jamie was equal to it and tipped it over the top.

“Both teams had a lot of corners and they had the majority of the possession in the second half without really hurting us, while we carried a threat on the break.

“There was just no quality in the final third though from either side and to be honest a goalless draw or a sneaky 1-0 was always on the cards from the very early stages.

“The fact we were so disappointed with a point afterwards after having played four of the top six over the last four weeks, just shows how far we have come in that time and hopefully we can push on now.

“I would have certainly taken a point before the game and once again there were some good individual displays with Charlie Holland, Adam Anstey and Jordan Vincent all impressing.”

Richmond’s opposite number, Maurice Welch, added: “Both defences were well on top throughout and it was certainly not what you expect from a local derby.

“There was no cut-and-thrust in at all and we were certainly disappointed with our performance.

“We just never got going really and never had the quality to break them down.

“We went to 3-5-2 in the second half in a bid to change it up a bit but that didn’t work either.

“Over the past few weeks we have gone from leaking goals and scoring four to win games to not conceding any and struggling to score.

“It is good that we have tightened up at the back but we just need to work on our play going forward.

“With Nick Etherington and Josh Why up front we have got to get the right service into them and look to get them breaking into the channels. High balls into them are not going to work.”

The Chickens remain sixth in the Magna Dorset Premier League while the Terras sit 15th, nine points above the bottom two.
