BABS Alexandra, who is still taking to the local alleys at the age of 92 for Wyke Skylarks, reckons skittles helps keep her young.

Babs has been involved in the game for over 30 years and although she does not play as often as she once did, the social side of the sport is enough to keep her turning out week after week.

She told Echosport: “I do not play so often now so I pass the balls to them instead.

“If we are short I will play but I mainly just enjoy the social side now.

“I do not like staying in and even though my eyesight is not very good, you do not need to see to walk about.

“Some friends of mine got me into it and there are four of us originals still playing now.

“A girl called Angie picks me up and brings me home and they are just a great bunch of girls.

“They do not treat me different because of my age and it helps keeps me young.”

Babs has only ever played for the Skylarks, who currently compete in Ladies’ Division One in the Weymouth & Portland League.

When asked what throwing action she adopts, the experienced skittler added: “I play properly, the same as bowls.

“I have never thrown myself down, which is probably why I am still playing now.

“But like I said I mainly just hand them the balls now and boss them about a bit.”
