TOM England is hoping for a change in the weather ahead of tomorrow’s Dorset Premier League opener against reigning champions Poole Town at Redlands (1.30pm).

Weymouth have already seen their entire pre-season campaign fall to the recent wet conditions and it looks likely the downpours could claim a lot of this weekend’s fixtures as well.

England told Echosport: “We could not have asked for a tougher opener with the champions coming down but to be honest we just want to get out there now.

“Due to the recent wet weather, we have had three friendlies rained off and we haven’t been able to train outside, so it has been very frustrating.

“Things don’t look very hopeful for tomorrow either but fingers crossed it will go ahead.

“Poole are strong all-round so if it does go ahead we will have to be our best.

“We just want to get out there and try and put on a show, and who knows, if we can start well and they have a bit of an off-day, there is every chance we could come away with a positive result.”

Matt Lawes and Laurie Whyte, who both missed quite a few games last season, are in the Seasiders’ line-up this weekend but Ben Lawes and the returning Hayden White are notable absentees.
