TOBY Osmond fought off illness, and his Cheshunt rival, to reach the last four of the Junior ABA Championships.

Despite feeling unwell the night before the fight, the Weymouth ABC youngster produced a gutsy display at Bristol Academy to overcome James Boswell.

The 16-year-old started with a high guard against his taller opponent and just as the bell sounded for the end of the first round, Osmond caught his rival across the chin with a solid right, helping him open up a 3-1 advantage.

Osmond then went on the attack in the second, landing straight lefts and rights as he got into his stride.

Boswell was now on the ropes and the seasider capitalised with some heavy body shots to extend his lead to 8-3.

Knowing he was in the last chance saloon, Boswell came out all guns blazing for the final round and soon delivered a straight right to the head.

Unperturbed, Osmond hit back with a left hook before going on to record a clear victory – 15-4 in his favour.

The Weymouth member will now box Alfie Little of Strood in the semi-finals on Sunday and club president David Nelmes would love to see Osmond reach the showpiece bout.

He said: “This is Toby’s second time in the national semi-finals and all of us at the club hope he can get to the final.

“It was a remarkable performance in the quarter-finals as he was up at 4am on the morning of the contest being sick, and in 15 hours he lost two-and-a-half kilos.”
