FOUR senior members from West Dorset Swimming Club took on the British ASA National T30 Challenge and collected gold in their team category.

Jordan Trewartha also won gold in the individual aged 18-24 year category.

The T30 Challenge is an annual countrywide event which encourages adult swimmers to participate in longer distance events.

Each team consists of four swimmers, aged 18 and above, who swim as far as they can for 30 minutes and the four swimmers distances are added together and the team with the furthest distance wins.

The four Masters swimmers swam a total distance of 8,105 metres only 150m short of the competition record in their category set in 2004/2005.

The team consisted of Adam Gough, Clint Cornick, Nick Ireland and Jordan Trewartha.

Nick Ireland is the oldest team member and as well as swimming for the Masters, is a Lifeguard for West Dorset Warriors while Gough and Cornick swam for the Dorchester club as juniors before moving up to the Masters.

Trewartha currently swims for both West Dorset Warriors and the Masters.

Cormack swam 2,095 metres in 30 minutes with the three other swimmers swimming around 2,000 metres, with only 25 metres separating their distances.

This was the first time the Masters from West Dorset Warriors took on the T30 Challenge and encouraged by their win they are already training to take on the challenge again next year with the competition record in their sights.

The West Dorset Warriors Masters train on Monday and Thursday nights at Thomas Hardye Leisure Centre between 8.30pm and 10pm.
