DORCHESTER’S title hopes suffered a setback at the weekend as they fell to a 60-run defeat at the hands of early pacesetters Wimborne & Colehill.

The county town side were left needing 247 to win after Mike Kit-son smashed a superb 102 as the hosts posted 246-5 from their 50 overs.

The visitors made a decent start in reply but eventually fell a long way short.

Skipper Martyn Richards admitted: “It was a bit of a disaster really.

“It was a bad day at the office and all we can do is take it on the chin, learn from it and try to put things right at home to Winton this Saturday.”

Elsewhere, Weymouth picked up just eight points following a painful defeat at Ferndown Wayfarers.

The Seasiders produced a topsy-turvy display at Dolmans Farm and ended up going down by two wickets to the frustration of the whole camp.

Experienced bowler Dave Trotter said: “We had good periods in the game and bad periods, and things just didn’t go our way.

“It’s disappointing because it is a game we felt we should have won but progress is being made and we are getting there.

“Had we put a few more runs on the board and had a bit more depth in our bowling we would have come out on top but it is important we continue to focus on the positives because we are not that far away.”
