DAVE Trotter believes Lady Luck will soon turn Weymouth’s way if they continue to maintain their recent levels of performance.

The Seasiders went down to an agonising defeat against league leaders Wimborne & Colehill last time out due to an untimely weather delay but they are confident a change of fortunes in the Dorset Premier League is not far away.

Trotter, who has been in inspirational form with the ball this season, told Echosport: “We have a great team spirit at the moment and everyone appears to be enjoying their cricket again.

“All we need now is just that little bit of the rub of the green.

“We are improving week on week and if we can continue to do that it won’t be long before things start to go our way.”

Weymouth currently sit fourth-bottom in the top-flight but know a dominant victory over basement boys Winton tomorrow (1.30pm) could lift them into the top half.

Trotter added: “It is a game we have got to go and win but they are a team not to be underestimated.

“I played against them a couple of years ago for the seconds and they have some decent players.

“They also showed against Dorchester last week that they are capable of putting on a partnership and scoring a few runs so it is important we go there in the right frame of mind.

“At the end of the day we are capable of beating anyone in this league on our day and if we can perform to the levels we know we can this weekend we should come away with a positive result.”

Weymouth have made two changes for the clash with Tom England and Laurie ‘Cube’ Whyte both returning in the absence of Ben Lawes and wicket-keeper Jim Ryall.

Trotter said: “It’s a shame Jim is out because I have not seen him keep as well as he has been doing this season in years.

“I take it Kieron Womble or Dean Janaway will deputise.

“What a lot of people don’t realise is that as well as an accomplished batsman and bowler, Dean is also a very good keeper so if Kieron decides he doesn’t want to do the job, we already have an ideal man to step in.

“It’s a shame Ben will be missing too but we couldn’t have two better players to come back in than Tom and Cube.

“Tom goes about his business in a quiet and efficient way while Cube is a great spin bowler that can help put pressure on the opposition batsmen, so there is no doubt we will go to Winton in confident mood.”
