WEYMOUTH Ladies have signed five more players for their South West League Premier Division squad as they look to improve on a successful 2011/12 campaign.

First to put pen to paper was Ella Walmsley who established herself as a valued member last season after stepping up from the under-16s, who she captained.

Walmsley is a very competitive midfielder who may make a transition to centre-back this term.

The second player to sign was striker Amy Laws, 16 – the daughter of ex-Terras’ legend David Laws.

Amy has had to wait patiently for her chance until she reached the required age to play in ladies’ football and now the time is right for her to begin her football career with Weymouth.

She combines pace and strength and will become a major asset for the team.

Last season’s leading marks-woman and the South West League Premier Division’s joint top scorer Philippa Holden returns and she will combine playing for Weymouth on Sundays with living in Guildford, where she plays for Chelsea.

Also joining the Terras are midfielder Elle Saunders, who also hopes to play for the Blues, and last season’s Dorset captain – defender Samantha Johnson.

Manager Tim Davis said: “I am delighted all the girls have signed and they have strengthened the squad immensely.

“All of them are talented footballers and just as importantly they are all great girls and want to play their part in making Wey-mouth Ladies successful.

“With Amy Wild having signed, to now have Philippa on board is great news and it will be great for the likes of young Lawsy and Shannon Peaty among others to learn from two quality strikers.

“We are building a very competitive squad and everybody is looking forward to the start of pre-season on Tuesday, June 26 at Bowleaze Cove when the girls will commence their rigorous fitness sessions with hill and beach running. “I am still in the market for some more players and am approaching some this week. However, if you feel you have the ability to play at South West League Premier level and want to come and join us for pre-season contact me on 07974885259 or email tim_wfc@hot mail.com”
