AFTER the previous week’s washout, players were back on Weymouth Beach for week seven of the ‘Go Spike’ League.

The A series was thrown wide open with league leader Rob Sem-mence away on holiday, allowing the chasing pack to try and take advantage.

It came down to a final that saw Jules Stout and Elliott Sawyer take on Mike Powell and first-time finalist Craig Bishop.

Bishop and Powell started the match aggressively and took an early 7-3 lead, but slowly the greater experience of Sawyer and Stout began to shine through and the scores were level at 11-11.

The second half of the contest was dominated by Sawyer and Stout, who made less unforced errors and were able to pull away to win 21-17.

These results mean that Dom Cosserat now leads the race for the King of the Beach title for 2012 with Sawyer now up to second place.

The B series saw a first win for Edvidge Calloch and Dan Buss, who in an exciting final overcame Steve Dowler and Laura Giffen.

The final was a best of three sets match and Calloch and Buss comfortably won the first 15-11 and looked to be on for a simple straight sets win when they led the second 13-9.

But their opponents fought back to take the set 17-15 and level proceedings.

The deciding set though, was more one-sided as Calloch and Buss regained their composure to run out 15-6 winners.

The players will be back on the beach tomorrow evening from 6pm and all newcomers are welcome to join in.
