A STRONG performance at a prestigious international competition in Germany saw Dorset’s Hannah Biggs mixing it with some of Europe’s best dressage riders.

Gillingham-based Biggs notched up an impressive fifth place in both the Grand Prix and Grand Prix Special classes at Wiesbaden CDI4*, riding her own 13-year-old chestnut stallion Weltzin.

The 33-year-old is a member of the British Equestrian Federation’s UK Sport-funded World Class Development Programme, which works with talented riders to maximize their success.

Speaking after a wonderful performance, Biggs said: “This was the biggest show we’ve done so far this year so I’m really pleased with our results.

“Despite the high pressure atmosphere we both felt happy and relaxed and it’s great to see our scores are continuing to improve.

“I also had my trainer, World Class Performance Programme rider, Emile Faurie with me which was great support.”

The World Class Development Programme underpins World Class Performance and, together with the Equine Pathway, they comprise the Equestrian World Class Programme. It incorporates the three Olympic sports of dressage, eventing, showjumping and the Paralympic sport of para-equestrian dressage.

The programme has been funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, through Exchequer and Nat-ional Lottery funds, via UK Sport since 1998.
