DORSET Pentathletes’ annual assault on the National Biathle Championships saw them deliver six national champions in another emphatic team display.

The county outfit took a squad of 26 athletes to Salford Quays in Manchester, where they picked up 10 medals to once again be crowned the top club in the country.

The run-swim-run competition was also a selection event for the World Championships in Dubai on November 3 with the top six in each age group being selected to represent Great Britain.

Dorset sealed 21 berths in the squad and team coach Mick Flaherty was extremely proud afterwards.

He said: “Once again Dorset Pentahletes dominated the British Championships, winning more medals than any other team, which is an excellent achievement for the athletes.

“The dedication and commitment the team has shown to training and racing has paid off with 21 team members being selected for the British team for the World Championships in Dubai.

“The competition was an amazing feat considering all the big cities that we have to compete with. Credit also goes to the younger members of the team who have shown lots of determination in their first year of biathle.”

Nick Ireland (men’s 40 plus), Melissa Courtney (girls’ 18-and-under), Jordon Symington (boys’ 16-and-under), Elizabeth Hood (girls’ 14-and-under), Jed Skilton (boys’ 12-and-under) and Ryan Symington (boys’ 10-and-under) all secured gold medals for Dorset while Oscar Esposti (boys’ 16-and-under), Travis Bramley (boys’ 14-and-under) and Kizzy Price (girls’ 12-and-under) claimed silver. Mark Bramley (men’s 40-plus) took bronze.

All the above athletes have also been selected for the GB team along with Emily Jefferies, Phoebe Mills, Olivia Foice, Harrison Yarnold, Jamie Price, Victoria Halford, Olivia Esposti, Africa Mason, Tom Cain, Andy Price and Flaherty himself.

All the athletes have to fund themselves for these events, including the World Championships, so if there are any potential sponsors out there who would be interested in sponsoring the club or any member of the team please contact Flaherty by emailing him via flaherty121@aol.com

Anyone interested in joining the club’s training sessions, which take place on Weymouth beach throughout the summer, are also urged to get in touch.
