JON Bevan added the Forest Classic title to the Marston’s Beer Company PGA West Region Championship he won a year ago to continue the incredible success of the three professionals at Weymouth’s Wessex Golf Centre.

Michael Watson’s seven wins this season include the Microsoft Masters order of merit tournament at Bowood while the 2011 WPGA champion Fern Grimshaw is this year’s West Region assistants’ champion.

“They have been doing so well I had to let them know there is still some life in me yet,” said Bevan, 45, who held on to beat European Tour player David Dixon (Enmore Park) and Matt Dearden (Vale Hotel) by one stroke in near-darkness at Forest Hills, where play was suspended for 45 minutes through heavy showers and flooded greens.

He played faultless golf with rounds of three-under-par at Forest of Dean followed by a five-under 67 at Forest Hills.

He added: “I didn’t make a bogey in either round and although I’m struggling a bit with my swing my short game is very good. This is perfect preparation for the Glenmuir Professional Championship at Carden Park next week.”
