DORCHESTER enjoyed a comprehensive victory over their Lyme counterparts.

The county town’s Hazel Newboult, Lyn Mumford and Val Ferguson found themselves 7-6 down after 10 ends against Pat Cole, Pauline Knight and Tina Payne but picked up 14 shots over the following seven ends to put them well ahead 20-9 with one end to go. They dropped a single but ran out winners 20-10.

On the other rink, Jean Cox, Liz Whatley and Fran Dyer were never headed against Jean Beavis, Jo Barnish and Val Cozens and only failed to score on five ends. At the halfway stage, the Dorchester trio were 15-3 up and piled on the shots, earning a convincing 26-9 win.

THE county town ladies went into this game only needing a win to be sure of winning their section of the Edna Paisley League.

Lyn Mumford, Barbara Wilkin and Val Ferguson came up against Sherborne’s S Heyborne, J Maber and F Brown and were 9-1 up after nine ends. Sherborne’s trio closed the gap to 9-5 but the home rink pulled away to lead 15-6 after 14 ends, winning 17-10.

It was a see-saw match on the other rink where Dorchester’s Liz Whatley, Marian Greenman and Sue Lofthouse found themselves 9-2 down against D Chapman, H Pharoah and S Singleton after seven ends.

However, they picked up nine shots over the next four ends to go ahead 11-9 before dropping four shots to go 13-11 behind after 12.

With three ends to go, the home triple were 16-14 down but picked up four shots without reply to win a very close game 18-16.

Dorchester Ladies still boast a 100 pent record with just one game remaining.
