MATT Thomas fired an unbeaten half-century to finally clinch the Dorchester Evening League Division Two trophy for Winfrith.

Defeat to second-placed Bere Regis the previous week had delayed Winfrith’s celebrations, but they finally cracked open the champagne with a comfortable win over Charlton Down .

The latter were restricted to 88-5, thanks in part to the efforts of Ryan Norma (3-20), before Thomas (54 not out) led the newly-crowned champions home with eight wickets in hand.

Bere Regis meanwhile, also ended their campaign on a winning note.

The runners-up were indebted to a superb knock from Dean Rogerson (69 not out) as their mammoth total of 173-3 proved too much for Frampton (119-5).

In the same division, Puddletown (128-3) secured a fourth-place finish with a commanding display against Abbotsbury (40-8).

Lucas Allen plundered 62 runs and Ollie Thomson snared 4-24 for the victors.

Churches United (104-4) claimed the Division Three title by defeating nearest challengers Plush (78 all out), courtesy of Pete Diffey (38 not out) and Dan Morris’ (3-15) exploits.

Also in the third tier, Winfrith Seconds (72-1) brought the curtain down on their season with a nine-wicket success against Colliton Club (71 all out).

Division One leaders St George’s, who secured their sixth title in seven summers last week, maintained their perfect record by hammering last year’s champions Dewlish.

Dave Griffiths top scored with 55 as the Saints posted 111-2 before Rich Cole (3-7) starred with the leather to help skittle their opponents for a meagre 38.

Dewlish (114-5) also suffered defeat at the hands of Cattistock (115-4) for the second time in a matter of weeks – the first occasion seeing the latter prevail in the final of the Knockout Cup.

Captain Billy Wallbridge (57) and Martin Oliver (3-34) inspired Cattistock to victory in their latest clash.

Elsewhere, Cerne Valley (99-4) got the better of Hazelbury Bryan (97-5) in their penultimate fixture of the summer.
