CHICKERELL UNITED 3 HAMWORTHY UNITED RESERVES 3

AFTER watching his Chickens snatch a late point, Maurice Welch described Saturday’s six-goal thriller as a rollercoaster ride.

Chickerell United looked doomed at 3-1 down – Jake Price having initially equalised at Weymouth College – but the hosts completed an unlikely rescue mission with goals from Lee Pattison and Sean Stewart.

Describing the action against Hamworthy United Reserves, boss Welch said: “It was a bit of a rollercoaster.

“We started well and created two or three good openings. We appeared to be in control and we looked set for a good afternoon.

“But they scored with their first attack and it rocked us a bit because from then on it was all one-way traffic.

“We could and should have been out of the game by half-time as they missed some good chances and Steve Boore made a few good saves.

“We were all over the place but I got them in at half-time, we sorted ourselves out and we came out the better side.

“Jake equalised and it looked like we would go on and win the game comfortably. But just like the first half, they scored again.

“The ref had a good afternoon but the only complaint was when Jake was seeing the ball out of play and their guy pushed him in the back and onto the railings.

“The ball also appeared to go out for a throw so the ref could only have given a throw or a free-kick. But he didn’t and we were guilty ourselves as we stopped in order to complain to the ref. We got caught out and they made it 2-1.

“Our heads dropped again and they scored another five minutes later, which was a poor goal to concede from our point of view.

“It looked like game over but we made a couple of changes and Lee Pattison scored with almost his first touch and then Sean Stewart scored with a nice volley.

“We still had a chance to win the game but it didn’t go in and it would have been an injustice if we had won the game.

“Against Weymouth a week ago we deserved a point but got nothing, whereas on Saturday we deserved nothing but got a point.

“So what goes around comes around.

“But fair play to the boys as they kept going and showed a never-say-die attitude.”

The Chickens, who sit seventh in the Magna Dorset Premier League, are without a fixture this weekend.
