THE well-established Isle of Portland Canoe Club (IOPCC) meets on a regular basis and always looks forward to welcoming new members.

Positioned in an attractive location, the club runs open water sea trips, river adventures, short coastal paddles, surfing and white-water trips locally in Dorset as well as in Cornwall and Devon.

The IOPCC is affiliated to British Canoeing.

Each month, the club aims to complete two official paddles and on top of this, members meet regularly for unofficial adventures.

On Thursday evenings, members meet at Sandsfoot Beach in Wey- mouth for paddling practice as well as formal training.

The club is open to people aged 18 or over who will be required to attend a training course.

Over the winter months, this will take place at an indoor pool on Portland while in the summer, it takes place in Portland Harbour.

The IOPCC has close links with the Weymouth Outdoor Education Centre (WOEC) and the Portland Canoe Lifeguards. For anyone under the age of 18, WOEC provides an excellent programme of training and experiences.

It is a very friendly club with a diverse membership and anyone interested in developing their skills or paddling for fun, can find more information at iopcc.org
