LIGHT winds at Weymouth Speed Week could not move the Weymouth windsurfing star Scotty Stallman from the top spot.

Stallman retained the junior title for the third year in a row at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.

The 15-year-old said: “It was a hard weekend and on the Wednesday before the event started, we had some super strong easterly winds in the harbour.

“Everyone else was on wave kit and having amazing fun however, I went out on my smallest speed kit in preparation for Speed Week.

“We had two days competing in the light winds trying to get our best 500 metre run.

“Surprisingly on the Saturday, I was the fastest windsurfer of the day overall and won the glass tankard as well.

“Sunday had similar wind speeds and direction, I would start a promising run and then halfway down the course, would sail into a lull in the wind and just stop.

“I did however manage a 22.75 knot average speed over the course which was enough to take the win in the junior section.”

He added: “Retaining the junior title has made a great year even better and is a boost going into the final British Slalom Association Slalom event of the season, again hosted by the Official Test Centre in Portland Harbour at the end of the month.”

Scotty was inspired by the high-tech foiling equipment being used and said: “I have been really impressed with the foiling kites and windsurfers.

“The guys were amazingly quick upwind, especially in the light winds and I can’t wait to try a foil on my own kit, but I’ll have to keep saving up as they are expensive.”
