WEYMOUTH Rowing Club put on a strong showing as they attended the Bristol Regatta.

Nine clubs from around the south west entered the event to make a colourful sight, with seven to eight-minute sprints taking place every 15 minutes.

Weymouth ladies’ A fought hard to get into the second heats and came fifth overall, while the Men’s A team came seventh.

The big success story was in the men’s and ladies’ vets crews, who were both delighted to go through and take first place in their heats.

The regatta followed on from the Three Rivers Race, where Weymouth secured some good results, on a day where clubs from all over the south west raced the six-mile endurance course, which covers the rivers Tamar, Tavy and Lyhmer.

Weymouth took three of their gigs and entered three ladies’ and three men’s crews, which saw the men come 23rd, 40th and 66th out of 80 crews, while the women came 16th, 21st and 50th out of 73 crews.

Next stop for the Weymouth crews is the Isles of Scilly World Championships in May.
