DORCHESTER have been crowned Dorset School Games sailing champions.

Teams from Dorset schools gathered at Rockley Park in Poole to battle for individual and team honours in the Dorset School Games Sailing.

Sixteen schools took part from across the region including Wey Valley, All Saints and a combined Dorchester schools team.

Positions were closely contested in the Laser Pico dinghies in light conditions throughout the Challenge fleet for newcomers and the Gold fleet for the more experienced sailors.

A well-designed racing schedule enabled the sailors to compete against other sailors of similar abilities after the first heat.

In total there were five finals.

The top results from each school were combined to crown one school the overall winner.

The Dorchester Schools had four students in the Grand Final which made the difference in the final scores.

Oli Fellows won the event overall with Ben Adler, Will Adler and Ben Richardson chasing down the other positions.

Eight of the Dorchester schools team are members at Castle Cove Sailing Club, two of which are National Topper Squad Sailors and three SW Topper Squad members.

Dorchester finished second last year, won two years ago and have regained the crown again this year.

A Dorchester school spokesman said: “The youngsters enjoyed the event, especially the activities between races such as stand up paddleboarding.”
