WEYMOUTH GH PODIATRY COWBOYS 61

DORSET STORM SPARTANS 72

WEYMOUTH Cowboys fell to the Spartans for the second time this season.

This time, Weymouth had the home advantage and were looking for revenge with a strong team.

Brett Dunster opened the hosts’ account with two points, but the Cowboys’ defence were brutally punished with raining threes from the opposing team.

The home side failed to put pressure on the visiting shooters who hit back-to-back threes throughout the quarter.

Promising rebounds from Matt Board kept Dorset from pulling away early on but the quarter ended 28-21 to the Spartans.

The second period started with Steve Howlett on fire with his valuable mid-range shooting and he ended the game with a 100 per cent field goal percentage.

In addition, guard Giles Heaman, unafraid of contact driving into the lane against stronger defenders, weaved his way through traffic for tough, but successful lay-ups.

Sam Dodge got active under the basket, assisting his team with some defensive and offensive rebounds and key put-backs.

After a tiring first quarter, the half ended 42-32 to the Spartans.

The entire Weymouth side took their game to the next level in the next half.

Jake Durston pressured the three-ball on the defensive end all quarter as Carl Carter got creative on defence, producing some vital steals.

The Cowboys kept the Spartans to only 13 points as well as scoring 19 to bring the scores to within four points as the quarter ended 55-51 to the Storm.

Going into the fourth, Ben Stokey showed plenty of potential in the post offence and defence, causing trouble for the opposing team to create a shot and cut to the basket.

Jamie Harris had taken over the scoring position in the fourth quarter with a burst of eight points in eight minutes.

However, it was too late for the Cowboys as the Spartans held on for victory.
