ST GEORGE’S will go for a hat-trick of Knockout Cup final victories this evening when they take on Dewlish at Dorchester Rec.

While the Saints chase a 14th win in total and a sixth in the last dozen years, their opponents are bidding to lift the trophy for the first time.

The two sides booked their places in the final in somewhat contrasting fashion, with Dewlish easing to an eight-wicket victory against Cattistock and the Saints getting the better of Abbotsbury by 17 runs.

Cattistock posted a competitive 163-6 from their 20 overs in the first of the two semi-finals.

Billy Wallbridge, who smashed a century in his side’s league fixture with Charlton Down, smashed another big score of 62.

Liam Toohill also weighed in with an unbeaten 32 and S Tucker struck a useful 27.

S Hillier was the best of the Dewlish bowlers, claiming figures of 2-36.

Cattistock may have felt they had done enough to seal a final berth but Dan Belt and T Hewish were having other ideas.

Belt blasted 86 and Hewish 45 to guide Dewlish home in style.

A few days later it was the turn of cup kings St George’s and the Swans.

Some tight bowling from Chris Backhouse (2-21) and Simon Pengelly (2-29) restricted the Saints to 139-8 – Tim Goodhew top scored for the batting side with 27.

In reply, Abbotsbury actually lost fewer wickets but ran out of overs as they finished 17 runs behind on 122-5, Rob Cole taking 3-14.

Meanwhile, in Division One, Martinstown won the contest between the two winless teams.

Matt Camp hit 50 in an excellent total of 192-6 before Charlton Down, who now have eight defeats from as many games, registered 140-8.

In Division Two, Abbotsbury closed the gap on leaders Puddletown to two points thanks to a 35-run victory over Hazelbury Bryan.

Simon Mitchem (56) and Will McKay (38) took the Swans to 130-4 while the visitors were all out for 95, K Subramanian taking 3-22.

Cattistock Seconds picked up wins against Winfrith and Charlton Down Seconds to go top of Division Three.

The highlight of those fixtures was a knock of 116 from Cattistock’s J Baggs in the latter, although in the former B Browning (72 not out) and Colin Mullins (62 ret) took their team to 211-0.

However, Cattistock also lost to Puddletown Reserves and there were successes for Plush and Winfrith against Charlton Down Seconds and Puddletown RFC respectively.
