WEYMOUTH may not have managed a win so far this season but skipper Kieron Womble has been lifted by his side’s performances of late.

Ten successive Dorset Premier League defeats sees the Seasiders propping up the table, nearly 50 points behind rivals Dorchester.

And while relegation is on the cards, over the last few weeks Womble has noticed an improvement in the team’s approach.

They will be severely tested again tomorrow with a trip to Poole (1pm), who are firmly in the hunt for the title just a point adrift of leaders Sherborne.

Unfortunately, Womble is unable to take part in the match, while Hayden White (work) and Dave Trotter (injury) are also unavailable.

Marco Nott, Luke Lovett and Dean Janaway come into the side as Paul Payne stands in as captain in Womble’s absence.

“There have been a few games, and I always reference the Stalbridge match, where we just haven’t turned up,” said Womble.

“But in the last few weeks we have put in some better performances and haven’t been rolled over.

“We’ve been hitting 130 or 150 with the bat and then started well with the ball.

“The problem is we haven’t taken enough wickets and other sides have taken advantage of that.

“When you’re down at the bottom teams realise why you are there.”

He added: “I would be happy if we could pick up two wins this season.

“I don’t think anyone wants to have a completely barren season not winning a game.”

Womble also praised the recent batting displays of Simon Browne who has produced a couple of unbeaten knocks which have prevented Weymouth being bowled out.

On Poole, he continued: “I wasn’t there when we played them before but by all accounts it was a game that we did really well in.

“We had them on the ropes when we bowled and some people felt we should have won the game.

“If we had won that then it would have given our season a boost, but we didn’t and we have been on a bad run of form since.

“But we’ll go there tomorrow as positive as we can be and there is more pressure on them than us.”

Down in County Division Three, Weymouth Seconds, who beat Wimborne & Colehill Thirds last time out, host Kingston Lacy at Redlands.

Weymouth are one place off the bottom of the table, 39 points behind the side they beat a week ago.
