MARNHULL 102 (2pts) lost to PORTLAND RT 108-2 (20pts) by 8 wickets

PORTLAND consolidated second spot in the County Division Two table, making short work of Marnhull.

After the hosts won the toss and elected to bat first, Triangle got off to a blistering start with skipper Matt Randell (2-17) striking early to remove opener Christopher Ralph.

Jon Cameron (4-38) opened up at the other end for the islanders and it did not take long before he was in the action.

Cameron produced three unplayable deliveries in his spell, while picking up his four wickets to rock Marnhull from the outset.

Rob Townley (1-20) and T Dalkins (3-4) also bowled with good accuracy and swing to pick up wickets as triangle dismissed Marnhull for just 102.

As the sides turned around Randell’s men went out positively against the Marnhull bowlers and an opening stand of 69 set them up to cruise over the line.

Gareth Price (38) aided Chris Leake (61no), who hit 11 fours and two sixes in his powerful knock, secured victory for Portland in just 15 overs.

Randell told Echosport: “We were short of players last week when we travelled to Marnhull, so we knew it was going to be a tough game but one we had to win.

“It would have been nice to have batted first on that track, it seemed quite true and a nice place to score runs.

“Marnhull looked like a useful side but Jon Cameron bowled the best I’ve ever seen him bowl to dismiss their top order. He bowled three balls that were just unplayable and would have got a lot of batsman out three times in a row.

“The way the opening batsman went out to chase the runs down really showed what we have been looking to do this year.

“They went after the bowling and didn’t let Marnhull have an ounce of hope.”

Triangle will be looking to keep up their impressive form in the division this weekend as they host Cerne Valley at Reforne tomorrow (1.30pm).
