SWANAGE II 38 (0pts) lost to CHARLTON DOWN 39-0 (20pts) by 10 wickets

CHARLTON Down eased to a comfortable 10-wicket win over a weakened but experienced Swanage Seconds team on Saturday.

Disciplined bowling and some breathtaking catches produced a great all-round display from Charlton Down

It was the combination of youth and experience which started the Swanage collapse.

Sixteen-year-old Dan Stevens bowled beautifully for his 2-9 from six overs.

Pick of his wickets was the brilliant full-length catch by the experienced Roger Frapwell at cover.

This was followed by another well-judged diving catch by Jae Miller at mid-on. Matt Stevens then bowled the Swanage captain Pete Barker with the score on

10-3.

The introduction of spin from Kim Park (3-4) and controlled bowling from Rich Fagence

(4-16) saw Swanage bowled out for a meagre 38.

Park took a fine diving return catch and then followed with a sharp catch by wicketkeeper Rob Deadman and finally an instinctive breath-taking low catch at slip by Dan Stevens to wrap the innings up within 20 overs.

Fagence bowled an exquisite length trapping two batsmen leg before and bowling his two other victims.

Frapwell (16no) and Miller (13no) knocked off the winning runs in 10 overs to ensure an emphatic 10-wicket victory as well as 20 points.

Captain Pete Tucker said: “From the very first ball, the fielders were on fire stopping and catching everything which came near them.

“The blend of youth and experience was the cocktail for success. Four excellent catches never gave Swanage a chance to recover.

“Matt and Dan Stevens once again bowled so tight and this helped to put the pressure on the Swanage batsmen and it was pleasing to see Kim Park grow in confidence with every over of spin that he is producing and was unlucky not to have better figures than 3-4 off only three overs.

“The experienced Rich Fagence who actually prepared the wicket reaped his rewards with four wickets and bowled an impeccable line.”
