CHRIS Park insists “there is still more to come” from the Dorset squad after they reached the last eight of the MCCA Knockout Trophy on Sunday.

The Minor Counties outfit, who failed to win a game during their 2015 Trophy campaign at the start of last summer, have now recorded a hat-trick of victories to top Group One of the competition.

Their latest success came with a four-wicket win over Oxfordshire, and captain Park was delighted to get the result needed to reach the quarter-finals.

He told Echosport: “It was a great result for the team.

“Without Lewis McManus there were probably outsiders looking in and seeing if we could perform without one of our key batsman.

“We play Devon next Sunday which is really important for us to continue winning ways. We want to guarantee ourselves a home quarter-final now.”

Quizzed on the side’s upturn in form this season, the captain, who was without head coach Paul Prichard on Sunday as he was on a cricket tour in France, added: “I was chatting to a couple of the lads about it and we were just saying ‘what’s changed?’

“The only thing we could put our finger on was possibly being a little bit more relaxed and enjoying it more. That seems slightly strange to say.

“There is still room for improvement but I think the young lads are enjoying it, maturing, having that self-belief and that confidence that there are professional players who are giving us that extra 20 per cent.

“Together these young players are growing up but it is still early season and we need to keep our feet on the ground.

“There is still more to come.”

The county skipper also highlighted the performance of 17-year-old left-arm seamer Bradley Currie as a huge positive.

“The eight overs he bowled on his debut were absolutely beautiful,” Park added.

“He has come through the Dorset age groups and is down at Millfield School.

“I was very impressed with his control and attitude and his understanding of the game.

“He bowled two overs at the end of the innings under pressure and for him to execute his skills with slower balls, bouncers and Yorkers, he deserved his two wickets.

“I am really pleased and looking forward to seeing a bit more of him.”

Dorset’s next test comes with their showcase T20 friendly against Hampshire at Bashley on Thursday (5pm).
