A SUBLIME ton from Mike Peak and a stellar bowling display from Matt Porter helped Dorchester Seconds to a 34-run victory over Sherborne Seconds.

The county town seconds were struggling on 24-2 when Peak took to the crease and he left having scored 108 with his side on 195-7.

His side’s innings finished on 222-8, and Sherborne seemed to be making light work of it battling to 148-2 with 15 overs to spare.

But an inspired spell from Porter (4-19) as well as help from Peak (2-45) saw the hosts collapse to 188 all out in the 42nd over.

Having won the toss, Sherborne started well as they took the early wickets of Oliver Osborne (7) and Malcolm Stroudley (0).

But, in came Peak who shackled the bowling with a wonderful innings. He was ably assisted by Rhys Cole (20) and Joe Power (33). Only one other batsman, Eiron Fitzgerald (15), made it into double figures as the visitors posted a competitive score.

Dan Floyd got rid of John Laird early on, but the Dorchester bowlers struggled to put any sort of pressure of the home batsman after the early wicket.

Andrew Guppy (31) and Adam Smith (83) put on 72 for the second wicket before Smith and Parfitt added 49 for the third.

After those strong partnerships, the wheels fell of the Sherborne wagon as they lost four wickets for just 19 runs.

Dan Floyd picked up two wickets in this mad spell, whilst Porter did the rest of the damage.

Ross Durston (17) put up some brief resistance before Peak ripped through the tail to give the visitors a deserving win.
