WEYMOUTH are hoping to stem a four-game winless run in the County Division One as they travel to Cerne Valley tomorrow (1.30pm).

Captain Simon Browne missed last week’s agonising two-run defeat to league leaders Shroton, but he is back for the clash tomorrow, confident that they can turn their bad run of form around.

He told Echopsort: “I followed the game last week, but having spoken to Kieron (Womble) during the week, I didn’t realise how close it was.

“It extends our run of games without a win at home, but that will make the boys more determined to win, weather permitting.

“We’ve been close on a couple of occasions this season, but we’re not getting thumped.

“It may be just a little bit more effort from the guys to get us over the line.”

The forecast looks optimistic for the game which will see many of the Weymouth side take on former Seasider Jim Ryall.

The opening batsman is now playing for the opposition, and Browne is hopeful that Womble, Weymouth’s in-form batsman, can do the same against Ryall’s side.

“He’s got in in almost every game this season,” Browne explained. “I did joke with him it was about time he scored some runs and I’m glad he did that last week.

“Hopefully, he will carry on and there’s a few scoring runs so it would be nice to knock a few runs.”

Browne replaces Dave Pearce in the Weymouth side and Harry Mitchell comes in for Paul Webb.
