CORFE MULLEN 271-7 (19pts) beat ST GEORGE'S 214-9 (8pts) by 57 runs

CORFE Mullen maintained their lead at the top of the Sunday Division One table with a 57-run home win over St George's.

The visitors chose to bowl first, hoping to take early wickets with the new ball but Pearce Mercer’s accurate opening spell brought only one victim.

The Corfe Mullen batsmen made full use of the lightning fast outfield as Tom Ackland (71) and Sam Stroud (67) combined aggressive stroke play with excellent running between the wickets.

Michael Jordan kept up the onslaught in the closing overs although the returning Mercer stemmed the flow of runs slightly as the home side posted 271-6 from their 40 overs.

In reply, the Saints' batsmen refused to roll over in the face of the mammoth run chase with Simon Walsh, Tim Goodhew and Jamie Barrett all finding the boundary with regularity.

Although finishing some way short of their target, the final total passed the 200 mark while denying the home side a potentially crucial bowling bonus point by not being bowled out.
