DORCHESTER 368-6 (18pts) beat BROADSTONE 269-6 (8pts) by 99 runs

DORCHESTER’S Dan Belt has taken a liking to the Broadstone bowling attack this season, and he did so again in his side’s whopping 99-run win at the Rec.

Belt, who scored an unbeaten 145 at Delph Woods against Broadstone in the reserve fixture back in June, followed it up with a commanding score of 103 off just 96 balls, as runs flowed at the Rec.

The former Dorset man, who also took on wicketkeeping duties on Saturday, also totalled 115 against the Broadstone Sunday XI for Dewlish last week.

Speaking about Belt after the contest, winning county town captain Simon Mitchem told Echosport:

“It’s great that he is scoring runs.

“He is expecting to score runs now every week because he is in such good form.

“Since he has given up bowling he has batted really well.

“He kept very well too, which is not a surprise really. It’s nice we have the depth for other people to do those jobs.”

Belt’s knock was aided by big contributions from Dorchester’s Pete Moxom (42), Quenton Miller (82) and Mitchem himself (57) as the Dorchester top four all fired against a depleted Broadstone side who only travelled to the contest with 10 men.

Eventually, having won the toss and batted, the county town side racked up a massive 368-6 from their 50 overs.

In reply, Belt’s knock was partially eclipsed as Broadstone’s Luke Carter also made use of the favourable batting conditions to score an unbeaten 124 at the top of the order.

But in truth, the visitors never looked like getting anywhere near their victory target as they closed on 269-6.

Mitchem added: “You can only play against what’s in front of you.

“We won the toss and had to bat first, it was a boiling hot day and we cashed in.

“It was nice for everyone to chip in and get a big total on the board.”

The victory means Dorchester move back into the top four, two points ahead of Broadstone in the league table.
