DORSET have called up batsman Sam Collins for their final three-day Championship contest of the summer, as they head to Finchampstead to take on Berkshire tomorrow (11am).

The Parley run-getter earned his selection to the full squad having scored an unbeaten 54 against a Wiltshire Development XI at the Hamworthy Club last Sunday.

And Dorset captain Chris Park, whose side can still scupper their hosts’ chances of reaching the final of the competition, insists that Collins deserves his chance.

He told Echosport: “He got 50-odd against Wiltshire last week at Hamworthy and applied himself well down in Devon in the previous Leopards’ game.

“With Luke Matthews unavailable we feel that he deserves his chance. He has got the nod in front of the others.

“Ryan Scott has decided to play for his club on the Sunday. It’s up to him and we spoke to him as part of the selection process, but it’s up to Sam to experience Minor Counties cricket.

Park added: “We are looking to further the development of the lads and continuing the progression with how we have played this year.

“Berkshire are obviously top of the Championship table so there is still a lot to play for on the game. Both Cornwall and Shropshire will be watching the game closely.

“We are still looking to win the game. We have had a fairly good season and everybody is fairly happy but that doesn’t mean that we are taking the game lightly.

“We need to finish on a good note with some good individual performances, which obviously

lead to a good team performance normally.”
