PORTLAND Red Triangle’s cricketers could get the chance to compete against legends of the game next summer, after it was confirmed the Lashings All Stars will visit the island outfit.

The exhibition fixture will be held as part of a jam-packed day of action at Reforne on Friday, August 4.

The likes of international stars Gordon Greenidge, Phillip Defreitas and Saqlain Mustaq have represented the Lashings, as well as Monty Panesar, Tino Best and Darren Sammy.

Speaking about the event, the island outfit’s first team skipper Matt Randell told Echosport: “The club hosting this game is a great honour, we will be the first club in Dorset to host such an event and we intend to make a fun, family friendly day.

“The club hosts multiple events throughout the year and has a great fundraising group who are excited about the opportunity to host the game.”

He added: “Lashings are made up of some of the best international cricketers to have ever played the sport and, personally, I cannot wait to be amongst some of the greats of the game.”

And with star studded names set to descend on the island, Red Triangle intend on making the whole day a special occasion.

The day itself is scheduled to start with a coaching session for the club’s up and coming youth section from 10am with a corporate lunch at midday.

At 4pm the showcase t20 clash will start between a Red Triangle Select XI and the Lashings All Stars, with presentations to follow.

There will then be live music throughout the evening, which will finish with a firework display.

Throughout the day, the club is hoping to include local charities to set up stalls and stands.

There will be a bar provided and run by the club and local food companies will be in attendance. Local organisations are also invited to set up stalls or displays.

Music will be provided on the main stage throughout and into the evening with live commentary provided by broadcasting legend Henry Blofeld.

Portland are also looking for sponsors for the event to help with kit, balls, tracksuits and ground equipment, along with lots of other work needed to be done over the winter months.

The club will advertise any sponsors as much as possible from the moment the sponsorship is received until the cricket season ends.

Randell added: “The club are looking forward to the event but won’t be able to put on a great day without help from local people, businesses and organisations.

“With this in mind, the club asks anyone who can help to step forward and contact either Myself, Amy Biddle, Dave Adkins or Richard Samuels.”
