WEYMOUTH Cricket Club chairman Laurie Whyte is looking forward to Saturday’s fundraising evening for the club, as former England Test captain Graham Gooch comes to town.

Gooch will be part of the fundraiser for the club as a special guest speaker, along with former Essex star and current Dorset coach Paul Prichard.

The evening is to be held at the Nothe Tavern this weekend, with tickets priced at £45 person, which includes a three-course meal.

And Whyte is welcoming the local community to go along and support the event.

He said: “It should be a really good evening.

“He (Gooch) is a big name to have come down to Weymouth and, to be honest, he has been really good. He is pretty much up for doing anything for us.

“He is quite happy to be involved, which is nice.”

He added: “It’s the more the merrier that are welcome to come along and it would be quite nice to show that cricket is well supported in the area.”
