DORSET skipper Chris Park may have helped his side to victory with the bat in their 37-run Unicorns Knockout Trophy clash at Cornwall on Sunday, but he was keen to keep the focus on the team as a whole.

Park, who also got 42 for Bournemouth against Rowledge in the Southern League on Saturday, followed up with an unbeaten 49 for Dorset in a low-scoring game at Grampound Road.

He came to the crease with the score at 64-5 and managed to get the hosts to 161-9 from their 50 overs, batting well with the Dorset tail to post a total which, in the end, they managed to defend.

Asked about his innings, the county captain told Echosport: “I was pleased to help the side out and put on a nice little partnership with Max Waller, we just tried to get as many runs as we could to keep us in the game.

“It’s something I have become accustomed to and used to. A difficult pitch and that added scoreboard pressure makes me tick really.

“I scored a few runs on Saturday, so I’ve found a bit of form, but it’s a team game and we all contribute. It was a good recovery from the middle order and the lower order to hang around with me a little bit.”

On the game as a whole, Park added: “Bowling first would have been the better choice really, but I lost my first toss of the year and we were put in.

“It’s always nice to win those low scoring games or those close games where the opposition think at tea time that they have one foot in the door.”
