SIMON Mitchem outlined the thinking behind Dorchester’s captaincy set-up this season, and insisted the structure was something he was happy with.

All-rounder Dan Belt led the side on the field against Martinstown in the county town side’s victory at the Rec on Saturday, and Mitchem revealed he is set to stay in the hot-seat going forward.

Mitchem, who still has the role as club captain, will operate alongside James Dunham to help Belt if needed.

“We pick the team together and things like that but, when it comes to on field stuff, Dan is the one who will sort that out,” Mitchem explained to Echosport.

“If anything happens to Dan, James Dunham or myself will step in if needed. It’s quite nice really because you share the workload and the club’s interests have to come first. That’s why we went down that route really.”

The club skipper also insists the set-up helps him focus on his own game.

He added: “I think, until you captain the side, you don’t realise that there is a lot of work involved. It can distract you at times and sometimes you just want to concentrate on your own game.

“It’s quite nice to be able to do that now.”

Dunham is unavailable for Dorchester this weekend when they head to Sherborne (1pm). Josh Richardson is set to come into the side.
