CHARLTON Down 1sts started their evening league season off with a comfortable 104 run win over Frampton.

Batting first, Jae Miller (35) started quickly before it was left to Nick Voss to accelerate past 50 by batting all 15 overs to end up fantastic 94 not out including six, fours and six, sixes.

Only Frampton all-rounder Chas Duerdoth (3-22) managed to offer any trouble to the home side with a tight spell but still Charlton Down were looking in a very strong position on 177-5.

Despite a brisk start to the Frampton innings, the visitors fell from 56-1 to 73 all-out with Phil Horne (34) and the resilient Duerdoth (25*) the only batsmen to make

double figures.

Last years DDEL leading wicket taker Tim durston (3-14) started where he left off last year and Ed Elliot-Square (2-2) had the best figures of a strong all round bowling performance. Captain Simon Dunford said: "With performances like tonight and last week’s cup game, Charlton Down will hope to push on and challenge this year."

n Fresh from their 104 run victory against Frampton 3 days earlier, Charlton Down continued their fantastic start to the season with a win against Hazelbury.

Despite two early wickets for the visitors, Sam Roles and Simon Dunford managed to destroy any hopes Hazelbury may have had in the game.

Taking the score from 20-2 after 3 overs the spectators were treated to an incredible exhibition of ball striking by the Roles.

The pair put on an unbeaten stand of 196 with Dunford very much rotating the strike to Roles who managed an almost unbelievable unbeaten 154 off just 56 balls to beat his own club record with the last shot of the innings.

The 13-over knock included 16, fours and 10, sixes with M Lewis for Hazelbury, the only bowler managing to go at under 10 runs for his 2-20.

The total of 216 from 16 overs was always likely to be out of sight for the visitors and with the run rate needed so high many perished trying to hit big.

With wickets falling at regular intervals, and two wickets each for Ed Elliot square (2-9), Matt Stevens (2-2) Matt Lovell (2-29) and Kim Park (2-6), two good catches on the boundary from the man of the moment Roles meant that the visitors were all out for 78 meaning a 140 run win for Charlton Down and three very strong results this season.

Speaking of the result, Captain Simon Dunford said: “I would normally be happy with a strike rate of 152 but Sam (Roles) was going at 275 and made me look pedestrian.

“It was an absolute privilege to watch it from the other end. He is an incredible talent."
