PORTLAND Red Triangle captain Matt Randell is relishing the renewal of his side’s rivalry with Compton House at Reforne in County Division One tomorrow (1.30pm).

Last season the two sides were promoted from Division Two after a lengthy battle for the title, Randell’s men just pipping House to gain promotion as champions.

And Randell told Echosport the game gives Triangle the perfect platform to respond to a four-wicket loss at Broadstone Seconds in their opening match.

He said: “Everyone is really looking forward to it. It’s nice having them as the second game because there’s always a little bit more rivalry.

“We want to win every game but against teams like Compton House there’s more rivalry and we hope to come out with a positive result.”

Randell also hopes that Triangle can make Reforne a “fortress” this season.

He said: “People don’t really like travelling to Portland. The pitch is a bit slow and low and it’s a bit out of the way for people to get there.

“We’ll try and get a win at home and make it a bit of a fortress this season if we want to do well in this league.”

Portland will include Rich Samuels, Joe Adkins and wicketkeeper Ryan Price, with Tom Hinde and Tony Morris dropping to the second XI and Callan Laws missing through unavailability.

Meanwhile, Portland Red Triangle Seconds visit Wareham in County Division Four tomorrow (1.30pm).

Portland United Veterans host Triangle in a fundraiser for the cricket club tonight (7pm), with players such as Darren Whyton, Andy Turrell, Stuart Heath, Chris Evans, James Reeve and Alan Rodgers involved.
