WEYMOUTH captain Harry Mitchell feels the Seasiders’ availability woes have “hampered” his side ahead of their trip to Witchampton in County Division Two tomorrow (1.30pm).

Mitchell’s men have recorded three wins from four, but the Weymouth skipper believes his charges could have made the perfect start had influential players consistently been in the matchday squad.

Speaking to Echosport, Mitchell said the availability situation was “worse” this week.

He said: “I would have liked to have four out of four wins, but due to having key people out it’s hampered us. If we’d have had everyone in, I’ve no doubt we would have won every game.”

He added: “Availability is worse. We’ve got Sam Tomkins coming in from Cosmos, Jack Sapsworth is dropping down to the seconds for a bit of good match practice.

“I’m hoping Dom (Webb) can play this week because he’s been scoring runs for us lately, and Shafeek (Urumancheri) is in – we’ll be looking forward to seeing him with his leggies.

“John (Wilson) is back with his clean hitting and Lloyd (Beals) is back as opening bowler with his left-arm swing, which adds a bit of firepower to our attack.

“So we’re missing some key players but we’ve got some back.”

John Ryan and Mark Rogers could come in, but Simon Browne is doubtful. Sami Rathnayake remains out with a hamstring strain, while Neil Walton could return from a back injury for Weymouth Seconds.

On the challenge of facing the Witches, Mitchell said: “We played there last year on a Sunday and the wicket played quite well. Hopefully we’ll set up a few partnerships and target the short side.”
