BERE REGIS 220-9 (10pts) lost to WIMBORNE & COLEHILL 230-5 (19pts) by 10 runs

BERE Regis narrowly missed out on chasing down Wimborne’s total but still claimed 10 points in the Dorset Funeral Plan Premier Division.

Wimborne won the toss and elected to bat first and had a very strong start.

The opening partnership of Colin Randall and James Miller put 101 runs on the board before Bradley Moss (3-41) caught and bowled the former.

Fortunately for the home side they would not have to wait long for Moss would help Bere to strike again.

Wimborne could only add nine more runs before Mark House was caught by Matt King from a Moss delivery.

Wickets soon tumbled as Wimborne temporarily seemed rooted to 111 runs, with Miller being bowled by Moss.

The away side were unable to add to their total as David Griffiths then trapped Frank Turrell lbw.

However, Wimborne began to respond afterwards and moved to 130-4 before Tom Butcher was trapped lbw by Robert Murphy.

This would prove the last wicket Bere took as the partnership of James Williams and Tom Caines added a further 100 runs.

Bere then went into bat and found it comparatively harder going, with Matt King being caught and bowled by Williams with 46 runs on the board.

Bere’s other opening batsman Nick White was then removed 12 runs later before Bere were able to push on to 123 runs, when Rich Cole was trapped lbw by Ed Bartlett.

Bere continued to push on and at 200-5 could see the finish line in sight.

However, Garry King was then dismissed before both Crispin Brown and Moss were removed for ducks.

Bere continued to push on despite the disruption but fell narrowly short of the finish line.

After the match, Bere captain Rich Cole said: “I am actually really pleased with how the team performed. We gave Wimborne a good game all of the way through.

“Even after them having a 100 partnership for their first wicket we still kept at it. Yes, we had a flurry of wickets in the middle and they batted really well to be fair to them.

“Their captain had what I thought was a really good game with the bat and the ball.

“I thought we were playing against a really good outfit. I felt that we were able to compete with them give, them a run for their money and get within 10 runs.”
