CRANBORNE 36 (5pts) lost to ABBOTSBURY 94 (16pts) by 58 runs

ABBOTSBURY rolled out Cranborne for 36 to complete a sensational 58-run victory in County Division Three.

Earlier, Abbotsbury were staring defeat in the face after subsiding for 94 all out.

But six wickets for Chas Duerdoth in a destructive second innings helped give Abbotsbury the win as 20 wickets fell on the day for just 130 runs.

It meant Cranborne recorded the second-lowest score in the Dorset League this season, with Marnhull Thirds’ 30 all out against Blandford Seconds remaining the lowest.

The Swans’ extraordinary triumph began brightly when they rebuilt well following the loss of opener Jack Jones (7).

Alex Drew (32) and Kynan Brian were in good touch, with Drew cracking four boundaries.

However, it was his departure that sparked a massive collapse, Oliver Hand (4-20) rustling Drew’s timbers.

Duerdoth (4) was the highest-scoring Swan thereafter, with Brian stranded on 28 not out having struck one six and a four.

Even the most ardent Abbotsbury supporter could not have expected the comeback to follow, though.

Duerdoth removed Hand (0) and spinner Pankaj Nikale then sent Scott Norton (0) back to the pavilion thanks to Harry Testa-Fisher’s stunning diving catch.

Cranborne were 2-3 when Nikale pinned Dan Adlem (2) leg before.

The Cranes were in serious strife when Duerdoth collected three more quick wickets, with only Dorset Over-50s all-rounder Phil Park (24) offering resistance.

Park bludgeoned three fours and a six until Duerdoth trapped him lbw and the remaining wickets were shared as Duerdoth collected a superb 6-15 and Nikale chipped in with 4-20.

Abbotsbury entertain Kingston Lacy today (1.30pm).
