MARNHULL 193 (8pts) lost to PORTLAND RT 298-9 (20pts) by 105 runs

PORTLAND Red Triangle stormed to a third successive victory, thrashing Marnhull by 105 runs in County Division One.

Matt Randell’s men are enjoying a late-season charge up the league table and now sit fifth with a chance of overhauling Hamworthy in fourth in the final two games.

Portland’s batting has been key to recent victories and it was therefore a surprise when Marnhull elected to bowl first after winning the toss.

The islanders took the game to the hosts straight away as openers Callan Laws (28) and Matt Barrett feasted on some generous bowling.

Henry Dimmack (1-50) ended a 72-run partnership for the opening wicket by dismissing Laws, but Barrett was in destructive mood.

He raced to 59, scoring 52 in boundaries, before the impressive Ed Clements (3-39) bowled him.

However, Portland were not done there as Randell helped Joe Adkins pile into the home attack.

The duo both hit fifties after spending 19.4 overs together at the crease, amassing 143 runs before Adkins (68) was ousted by Clements.

Randell (90) fell in the nineties having smeared seven fours and five maximums, but the damage had been done despite a defiant 3-49 from George Dimmack.

Portland finished on 298-9 from 45 overs and removed Dimmack siblings Henry (2) and Arthur (26) early on in defence of that total.

Ashley Young was typically aggressive in reaching a quick 52 but his dismissal with the score on 114 tipped the momentum in Portland’s favour.

Triangle then applied pressure with their spinners as Randell swept through the middle order, taking 4-38.

Sam Barnes (25) and Clements (21no) could not hold Portland at bay as Jack Marsh (1-34), Jon Cameron (1-36) and Rich Samuel (2-31) finished off the hosts for 193.
