Dorchester THIRDS 283-1 (20pts) beat BRIDPORT SECONDS 177 (5pts) by 106 runs

AN INCREDIBLE innings from vice-captain Jae Miller handed table-topping Dorchester Thirds an emphatic 106-run victory.

Miller finished unbeaten on 146 as he and in-form Sam Roles (72) combined to excellent effect, putting together an impressive 201-run partnership for the first wicket.

Teenager Roles was eventually run out but still managed to secure his second half-century in as many Division Five North & West games, including eight fours in a patient and sound innings.

Miller on the other hand took a more brutal approach, accumulating his 146 runs in 144 balls, including 14 fours and four sixes.

Dorchester’s innings continued at a rate of about six an over until the last 10 overs, where 100 runs was bludgeoned predominately by Miller, helped by some intelligent running between the wickets by Luke Voss, as the vice-captain took full advantage of a tiring Bridport bowling attack.

With a massive score to chase, the visitors’ reply started badly when Pete Horne (1-17), striking with only his third ball, catching Colin Iverson leg before without scoring.

A 50-run partnership between the experienced Rod Gay (26) and patient Lee Creedon (33) was eventually brought to an end with the introduction of Roles’ spin.

Veteran batsman Fred Ethering-ton decided the best form of defence was attack and smashed 27 off only 11 balls before he became the second of Roles’ (3-40) victims, finding the hands of a grateful Pete Tucker.

Simon Parker followed one run later, Voss picking up a smart catch at slip off Matt Stevens’ delivery (1-26) , and with the score on 86-4 an early finish looked on the cards.

But Toby Hall and Creedon had other ideas, putting on a partnership of 47 before Roles bagged his third wicket as Hall was caught out by the diving Cameran Lucas.

Callum Tucker then had Cree-don stumped by Deadman for 33 before removing another Brid port man courtesy of a brilliant catch at mid-wicket by Lucas.

Scott Parker (2-19) and captain Pete Tucker (1-8) then brought events to a close as the West Dorset outfit fell to a convincing defeat.

The county town skipper said: “Jae and Sam batted brilliantly. They both had their fair share of luck early in the innings but to put a partnership of 201 together was an incredible feat.

“There were also good bowling performances from Pete, Matt and the spin duo of Sam and Callum, which ensured maximum points.”
