Upwey & Broadwey 3 BLANDFORD UNITED RESERVES 5

STEVE Reynolds has threatened to make changes at Upwey & Broadwey following their disappointing start to the season.

The experienced manager issued the warning after his side squandered a two-goal lead in their latest defeat against the Royals, which saw them ship five goals on hometurf.

That loss has left the club languishing fourth-bottom in the Dorset Senior League with just six points from five games – a poor return for a side that started the season with designs on the title.

Commenting on his side’s recent woes, Reynolds said: “I am not going to point my finger at individuals but certain people let us down against Blandford United Reserves and they know who they are.

“After three weeks without a game, I was surprised at how brightly we started and within 25 minutes we were 2-0 up with both goals coming from Darren Samways.

“In fact, I would go as far as to say that at that stage we were playing some of the best football we have played all season.

“However, once the second went in, for some reason we stopped knocking it around on the deck and began to try and hit 40 to 50-yard balls, which just isn’t our game. Of course, it was food and drink for their defenders and by half-time it was 2-2.

“I told the lads at the break to get back to how we played in the first 25 minutes but it never happened and in the end we lost 5-3 with Phil Anderson grabbing our other goal with just three minutes remaining.”

Reynolds went on to add: “The way this season has gone so far has been frustrating to say the least and something needs to be done about it.

“When we go long like that we are our own worst enemies but the biggest problem at the moment is the fact we are struggling to get a settled side.

“We have used four different keepers so far this season in just five matches and I don’t think we have fielded the same back four twice.

“That is really hurting us at the moment and if I have to go out and look for other players I will because at the moment it is not regular enough and not good enough.

“No one can argue about being left out at present because no one is playing consistently for the full 90 minutes, not even the better performers.

“We need to sort ourselves out and do it quickly.”

Next up for Upwey on Saturday is a testing trip to Kingston Lacy (3pm), who last weekend became the first team to take points off current leaders Mere Town.

Upwey: Cowne, Aston, Johnson, Anderson, Pearce, Nichols, Frost, Jarvis (Bochonko 60), Kenderdine, Samways (Baker 85), Devaney. Subs not used: Purnell, Clark, Young.
