BRIDPORT striker Ryan Dovell says he can see no reason why he would want to leave St Mary’s Field as he approaches the twilight of his career.
The 33-year-old, a constant threat to defences over the years, continues to enjoy his football under Bees’ boss Trevor Senior.
And his potency in front of goal shows no sign of abating, with 11 strikes so far this term leaving him seven short of his tally for last season.
Dovell is a firm favourite with the Bridport fans and they will be delighted to hear that he intends to keep going for as long as he can.
“I haven’t put a timescale on things,” he said. “I think I’ll carry on playing until it gets too much.
“At the moment, I’m enjoying it and not feeling too tired at the end of games.
“I’m very happy playing down at Bridport and can’t see any reason why I would want to move on.
“As long as Trevor is happy with me and the atmosphere at the club stays the same I wouldn’t see any reason to leave.
“We’ve got a great bunch of lads and they are a good laugh on and off the pitch.”
Dovell isn’t one for setting personal targets, but suffice to say he is happy with his goals tally to date.
“I try not to set myself targets because if you are a little bit below where you want to be you can start putting pressure on yourself,” he added.
“I’m happy with 11 at the moment. There have been times during the season where I probably should have done better in front of goal and could have had more but I’m happy with the way things are going.
“Looking back on last season, I think I was on about 10 or 11 after Christmas, so I’m pretty much level with where I was then. I feel like I’m playing as well as I have done in previous seasons so I’m quite pleased on a personal level.”
The Bees go to Odd Down (Bath) in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division tomorrow (3pm), but Dovell misses out due to work commitments.
Meanwhile, Bridport’s match at home to Cadbury Heath, postponed last Saturday, will now take place on Tuesday, March 18 (7.45pm).
The home fixture against Bitton has been rearranged for Saturday, April 20 and the away game at Hengrove Athletic is pencilled in for Saturday, April 5 (both 3pm).
