JASON Matthews praised the entire Terras’ faithful for “a great show of unity” following his side’s 2-1 win at Bideford last night.

Having gone a goal down, Weymouth turned the game on its head thanks to strikes from Chris Shephard and Adam Kelly, watched on by a good away following including new chairman Chris Pugsley.

Matthews told Echosport: “There was a great show of unity at Bideford and I’d like to thank the supporters and everyone at the club because it has put us back on the right road.

“To come from behind after what has happened this week is a magnificent result from the boys.

“We stuck together and could have scored four or five with our first half display and eventually our persistence paid off.

“We dug in and it shows that the team we have got has a lot of character.”

The Weymouth player-manager also paid tribute to midfielder Steve Colwell, who came into the side for his first start of the campaign and put in a solid performance.

“Steve Colwell came in for his first start and I thought he was outstanding,” Matthews added.

“He sat in the midfield and bossed the game. His attitude has been outstanding all year because it must have been frustrating for him to not start a game until now.”
