IT WILL all be about building momentum for Portland United boss Gary Bailey when his side play their last game of 2014 at Grove Corner tomorrow.

The Blues, chasing a third successive Dorset Premier League crown, host struggling Poole Borough (2pm) in their penultimate game of the year.

Ross Doidge and Alex Halloran are still missing through injury, while Ben Doidge is unavailable, but Dan Austin could return to the squad if work commitments allow.

“It’s important we build on last week’s victory as we look to gain some momentum going into the new year,” said Bailey.

“We have had to deal with several injuries and a sending off in the last couple of games which affected our rhythm in both.

“We again go into this week having to shuffle things around, which is never ideal, but injuries and unavailability happen at all clubs and it’s something we just have to get on with.

“On the plus side, the players who have come in have done a good job, so that’s encouraging.

“Poole find themselves in the lower reaches of the table but two or three wins recently suggest they are turning things around and we will be preparing for a tough encounter.

“It’s our last home game of the year and it would be nice to sign off at Grove Corner with a win.”

Alan Hill, Dan Peart, Rhys Hayter and Sam Day are all out for Bridport Reserves as Robin Townsend’s charges make the trip to Shaftesbury Town (2pm).

However, Jamie Fry is back and Adam Stordy, Luke King and Roger Cummings are available, while Russell Legg could be free to play.

The Bees suffered a 4-1 defeat by Sturminster Marshall last time out and lie 11th in the league, and Townsend feels the St Mary’s Field outfit should be doing a lot better than they are.

“On paper, I’d like to think I’ve got one of the best squads in the league,” he said. “I’m not saying we should be winning the title but we should be in the top six.”

Jake Richmond might be able to field the same team two weeks running for what is likely to be the first time as Weymouth Reserves’ boss when the Terras go to Tintinhull (2pm).

Meanwhile, Blandford United host Westland Sports (2pm), with manager Bradley Asagba keen to make last Saturday's reverse at Wareham a thing of the past.

He said: “Last week was the worst performance from the group since I have taken charge and has now put us in a very difficult position.

“However, it will serve as a strong reminder that for us to take points off any team in this league we need to be playing at our full capacity.

“Doing that week in, week out is difficult for any footballer, even more so for those at this level, but the players have been made aware that is exactly what is required if we are to meet our objectives this season.

“Again, we are going into this game with half of the squad unavailable but that in itself is a positive for the players who think they should be in the team and gives them a platform to prove why.

“As with most teams, Westland will be coming to Park Road with the mentality of how many goals can they beat us by, but we will show them the respect they deserve and I am sure we will give a better account of ourselves than we did last week.”
